Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of regular oral nursing combined with teach-back model intervention on periodontal indexes and self-care ability of patients with fixed appliance orthodontic treatment. Methods A total of 460 patients who underwent fixed appliance orthodontic treatment in our hospital from January 2020 to May 2023 were selected as the research subjects, and they were randomly divided into control group and observation group, with 230 patients in each group. The control group was given conventional nursing, and the observation group was given regular oral nursing combined with Teach-back model intervention. The periodontal indexes, self-care ability, quality of life, nursing satisfaction and complications were compared between the two groups. Results The plaque index and periodontal probing depth in the observation group at 6 and 12 months after intervention were lower than those in the control group (P <0.05). The scores of health knowledge level, selfresponsibility, self-care skill and self-concept in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). The scores of physiology, psychology, social relationship and environment in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). The nursing satisfaction in the observation group was 99.13%, which was higher than 95.65% in the control group (P <0.05). The incidence of complications in the observation group was 5.22%, which was lower than 13.04% in the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion The application of regular oral nursing combined with Teach-back model intervention in patients with fixed appliance orthodontic treatment is effective, which can not only effectively improve patients’ periodontal indicators, but also improve their self-care ability, and help to reduce the risk of complications. It has positive significance on improving patients’ quality of life and nursing satisfaction, and is worthy of cli nical application.
